Expression of Interest - ADHD Research

Are you interested in participating in research about ADHD?

Professor Wai Chen and researchers from the University of Western Australia, are conducting research into the factors that help young people with ADHD to enjoy a healthy and engaged life while managing the difficulties associated with ADHD.

They are looking for young people who meet the following criteria:

  • aged between 14-34 years old
  • fluent in English
  • formally diagnosed with ADHD by a pediatrician or psychiatrist at least 12 months prior.
  • engaged with study or steady employment on a part-time or full time basis for at least 6 months
  • no contact with youth justice or corrective services for the previous 12 months
  • no evidence of suspension/termination from school or employment for the previous 12 months
  • no admissions to emergency department or in-patient admission for mental health related reasons in the previous 12 months
  • no acute episodes of psychosis or deliberate self-harm in the previous 12 months
  • no evidence of chronic alcohol or drug use in the previous 12 months
  • a parent/legal guardian that is accessible and available (for children under 18 years old)

We are recruiting adolescents (14-17 years) and adults (18-34 years) to take part in this research. Participants will be interviewed by one of the investigators during which they will be asked to reflect on their own experiences of living with ADHD and discussing the factors that they believe have helped them to manage some of the difficulties associated with living with this disorder.

The interview will take no longer than 90 minutes and will take place at a location that is convenient for the participant. Participants will be reimbursed $30 for time and expenses for taking part in the research.

If you or your child meet these eligibility requirements and would be interested in participating in this research please get in touch with Stephen Edwards on 9360 1650 or complexADHDService@health.wa.gov.au.
