Advocacy Training suitable for individuals, parents and teachers.
Advocacy is all about speaking up about rights, preferences and needs - then communicating clearly about what you want.
This course is designed for parents and supporters of children with ADHD and associated conditions, including learning disabilities. You will learn more about rights responsibilities and how to advocate effectively.
Content covered includes:
- Identifying your goals
- Your rights and responsibilities
- Dealing with schools
- Legal issues: privacy, disability, disclosure, employment and training access, discrimination
- The confidence to speak up
- Communicating clearly
- Accessing information and support
- Advocacy tools and techniques
- Negotiation skills
This training is presented in partnership with the WA Association for Mental Health (WAAMH)
About the Trainer: Hayley works for the peak body for mental health in Western Australia (WAAMH), she holds a Graduate Diploma in Education, a Certificate IV in Training and Development, a Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety and is a qualified Mental Health First Aid Trainer.
Hayley is an experienced registered Psychologist, qualified primary school teacher and also a qualified adult educator with extensive experience in mental health. Hayley will draw on many years delivering psychological services, counselling and training in the public and private mental health sectors. Working directly in the community mental health sector, she has extensive skills and knowledge related to the assessment, treatment, support and advocacy of people with a mental illness. This has included providing individual behavioural intervention treatment and facilitating engagement with group based support services that are recovery-oriented, person-centred and socially inclusive.
